Primal: the Awakening is a fully cooperative monster hunting miniature boardgame for 1-4 players set in a fantasy world where humans struggle to survive an untamed wilderness. The game is played in a series of multiple sessions throughout an epic campaign where you will take the role of hunters fighting monstrous creatures and unveiling mysteries about their origins.

In Campaign mode, players will choose their path through the story by completing quests and unlocking special rewards and achievements. Each mission you choose will lead to different developments of the story and to plenty of unique opportunities like crafting options, unique items and rare hunts to be played. The consequences of your actions will impact the story as the campaign progresses towards the epic finale. Players can also play one-shot encounters in the Hunt mode. Specific setup and rules are provided for single combat scenarios at different levels of gear and difficulty. The Hunt mode also offers the opportunity to play special end-game quests using your campaign characters.

The gameplay is centred on an intense and challenging boss-fight system that combines tactical positioning on the board, hand management and cooperative play. The combat is designed to be fast paced while focusing on card combos and player interaction. Each monster is a unique challenge that hunters will have to face as a group, completing specific objectives and adopting different strategies. Monsters have their own specific deck of cards which represents their specific combat behaviour including attacks targeting specific areas on the board, special abilities, but also weaknesses and vulnerabilities that hunters can take advantage of during combat.

The game also focuses on a deep character customization. As the campaign progresses, players will unlock a large variety of crafting options as they upgrade and expand the Forge depending on the specific monsters they slay.
As the hunters level up from session to session, players will also have multiple choices to customize their deck of ability cards in order to build better synergies, card combos and group strategies.

In-store pickup

Orders placed for in-store pickup become available on:

  • Pre-orders: the product's release date (or the day the product actually arrives at our store, if later), and
  • All other orders: the day we notify you that your order is ready for pickup.

Please pick up your order within 7 calendar days of it becoming available. Orders still unclaimed 10 days after becoming available will be cancelled and the items returned to stock. Paid orders will be refunded less a 25% restocking fee; for deposit-based pre-orders, the deposit is forfeited.

Can't make it in within the week? Just let us know at shop@on-boardgaming.com or (760) 566-6782 and arrangements can be made — we're happy to hold orders longer at our discretion (for example, if you're out of town).

Pre-orders

  • Deposit pre-orders: Deposits are non-refundable and reserve your item. Once our distributor confirms stock, we'll send an invoice for the balance, which is due within 7 days of the release date. If the balance isn't paid by then, the deposit is forfeited and the item returns to stock.
  • Paid-in-full pre-orders: May be cancelled before release for a refund less a 25% cancellation fee. After release, the pickup policy above applies.

Returns

Most merchandise may be returned within 30 days of purchase (or delivery, for shipped orders). Items must be unopened and in original condition, with tags attached and original packaging intact, along with proof of purchase. To start a return, contact us at shop@on-boardgaming.com.

The following items cannot be returned:

  • Trading Card Game and Collectible Card Game products of any kind — sealed product, packs, and singles — except where we made an error regarding a card's condition or identity
  • Sale and clearance items
  • Gift cards
  • Used or pre-owned goods
  • Items that have been opened or unsealed, for health and hygiene reasons

Damaged or defective items

If your item arrives damaged or defective, contact us within 7 days of receiving it (photos help us resolve things quickly). We'll exchange it or make it right.

Refunds

Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within 10 business days. If more than 15 business days have passed since your refund was approved, contact us at shop@on-boardgaming.com.

Event tickets

Event tickets may be cancelled for a refund up to 24 hours before the event starts. After that, they are non-refundable.

Return shipping

If a return is due to our error — wrong product, missing items, or an item that arrived damaged or defective — we'll provide a prepaid return shipping label. For all other returns, the customer is responsible for return shipping costs.

Return items to: 316 W Mission Ave #117, Escondido, CA 92025. When paying for shipping yourself, we recommend an insured, trackable service — we can't issue a refund without receiving the goods or proof of return delivery.
