The Green Tide That Never Stops
Orks have been a part of Warhammer 40,000 since the Rogue Trader days, and they are still one of Games Workshop's most popular factions. They are a species, part animal and part fungus, and the Orkoid race spreads by releasing spores that lie dormant for long periods, so a world is never truly ork-free. They outnumber humans across the galaxy, split into clans and feral ork tribes, and follow the toughest leaders such as Ghazghkull, the Beast of Armageddon. For the Ork race, it always comes back to the next fight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Ork kit for a beginner?

Start with a box of Ork Boyz, the cheap, core infantry that most Ork armies are built around. Add a Warboss to lead them and the Codex: Orks for the rules. A Combat Patrol box is a good next step, bundling several units together at a lower price than buying them separately.

Can I buy individual Ork units at On-Board Gaming?

Yes. Our Escondido store and online shop both carry single Ork kits, from Boyz and Nobz to vehicles like the Trukk, so you can buy exactly the units your army needs instead of a full boxed set. Our staff is happy to help if you’re not sure where to start.

Do Orks work well for competitive play?

They can. Orks are a close-combat pressure army that wants to charge in. Their army-wide ability, the Waaagh!, gives a one-turn boost to speed, attacks, and survivability, and the new edition’s six detachments let you build toward a horde of Boyz, fast vehicles, or walking war machines depending on how you like to control the battlefield.

How do I keep my Ork models in good condition?

Clean up the kits before painting, then seal finished models with a varnish to protect the paint. Store them in a foam-lined case, and handle the thinner parts, like Stormboyz rocket packs and gun barrels, carefully, since those are the bits most likely to snap when you move the army around.

What makes Orks different from other 40k armies?

Most factions, like the Space Marines, field small numbers of strong, elite models. As a species, Orks go the opposite way: cheap, plentiful, and built to swarm. You win through sheer numbers and the momentum of a Waaagh! rather than precision. Where humans plan, Orks just pile in, and because the Ork race spreads by spores, even a beaten Ork force comes back for another fight.
