New to Warhammer 40,000? Start Here
The easiest way into 40K is a Combat Patrol box — a ready-made army core for your chosen faction that costs less than buying the kits separately. Pick the faction whose look or lore grabs you, add brushes and paints, and you're in the hobby.
Not sure which faction fits? Come by the Escondido store — our staff play, paint, and will happily talk you through it. We also stock paints, glues, and hobby tools for every step after the first box.
Warhammer 40K at On Board Gaming — FAQ
Do you stock new Warhammer 40K releases?
Yes — we carry new Games Workshop releases as they come out, alongside a deep back-catalog of kits for every major faction. If a kit's not on the shelf, ask and we can usually order it.
What should I buy first to start Warhammer 40K?
A Combat Patrol box for a faction you like, plus a starter set of paints and a brush. That's a playable army core and the full hobby loop — building, painting, playing — in one purchase.
Do you sell Citadel paints and hobby supplies?
Yes — shop the Citadel paint range plus glues, tools, and basing supplies, in-store and online.
Can I order online and pick up in store?
Yes — free in-store pickup at our Escondido location, serving all of San Diego County. Choose pickup at checkout and we'll email when your order's ready.
